Liska Residence II
New York, New York
2004
A small one-bedroom apartment in Gramercy Park was transformed into a pied-a-terre for the client to use whenever he works in New York. We reconfigured it from a one-bedroom into a studio apartment that is the size of a gracious hotel room. This residence was the fifth project we have completed for this client.
Opening up the apartment and redefining its space made it more functional and inviting. Interior walls separating the bedroom, hallway and kitchen were removed and replaced with partial height walls of millwork. The result defines sleeping from living areas, while illuminating the apartment with natural light and creating the perception of a larger space. Since it is not a primary residence, there was only a need for minimal kitchen, dining and storage areas. These areas are integrated in a simplified form and connected through consistent design details.
